Children and Youth at UCC
Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.’ Mark 19:14
At the United Christian Church, children and youth are not just the future of the church, they are part of the church now. We take their education and engagement seriously through the following programs:
During Worship
Children age 4- 4th grade are excused for Jr. Church after the Children's Sermon. Here they will have a lesson, craft and maybe even learn a song. Children are however, always welcome to stay in the sanctuary with you.
There is a nursery room with toys, games, and craft supplies that has a closed circuit television with a live stream of our worship. The library television can also play the worship service, and can be used more for a quiet room for nursing or getting baby to sleep.
Group Opportunities
Youth Group: 6th through 12th grades meet regularly for study time, fun, and special events. Because of the busy schedule of our kids during this time in their lives, meetings are announced frequently, but our schedule is less set.
Church Camp at Laurelview Children and Youth going into 1st grade through having just graduated high school have opportunities for summer camp at Laurelview. Additionally, youth from 6th through 12th grade have opportunities for youth retreats through the year. Occasional child centered festivals take place at the camp, too. Click here for more information on camping.
Yearly Child Centered Events:
Blessing of the Backpacks Each year during one of our worship services in August, we ask the children to bring their backpacks during children's moment, offer a blessing on them, their school year, and their teachers. Then, we give them a keepsake for their backpacks to keep Jesus with them each day at school.
Trunk or Treat We welcome children each October to dress up in their Halloween finest and trick or treat at the well-decorated trunks of our members in our parking lot. There are then refreshments, games, and photo-booth style pictures indoors.
Social Hour with Santa Near Christmas, we welcome a special Christmas visitor after worship one Sunday, with special snacks and gifts for the kids. They also get a picture with our special Christmas visitor.
Egg Hunt Each year we have an egg hunt and and Christ-centered activities, including pictures with the Easter Bunny. Check the website for dates.
Changing tables are available in the men's and women's restrooms.
